Estates
This firm acted as architect for the newly developed Woodland Hills Wildlife Estate in Bloemfontein. Public buildings completed: Hillandale Gatehouse (2004), Community Centre (2008), Retirement village and frail care and Bergendal Gatehouse (2018) Numerous signature houses were also completed. Marieke served as chairperson on the Aesthetics Committee from 2004 to 2008.
Public Buildings
In 2002, the firm completed the new coffee bar, “The Terrace”, as well as the Reservoir Art Gallery at Oliewenhuis. This underground gallery was nominated as one of the 12 best green buildings in South Africa by SAIA and VISI in 2007.
Luxurious Housing
Signature houses are one of the strong points of this firm, as seen from the many examples that have been completed. Marieke tries to envision the dream of her client, guiding them, but not enforcing her architectural taste on them.
Residential Developments
Various Town House, Maisonette and Flat Developments have been completed.
Tourism
Numerous guesthouses have been designed by the firm. Creativity and playfulness within a theme or atmosphere plays an essential role in such a design. Examples: College Lodge; La Vie & Rose Lodge; Solo Gracia; Villa Banè; Chameleon Guesthouse; Emzini Guesthouse; Alchemy Guesthouse.
Thatch-Roof Structures
Another field of competence for this firm is Thatch-roof structures. The flexibility in design for such construction opens up numerous possibilities. Examples: Woodland Hills Wildlife Estate Gatehouse, few luxurious houses in the Estate, Amanzi Game Farm Entrance Building (near Brandfort), Hunters Lodge for Heritage Safaris on the Farm Loskop (near Kimberley), Letsatsi Game Farm Main Building (near Smithfield). The thatch-roof for Letsatsi won the International Award from ITS for the best thatch roof for 2015.
Security
This firm did a number of security-type buildings incorporating the Five-star requirements for prisons. It also includes a Secure Care Facility (holding facility for children awaiting trial), a Youth Justice Centre (24-hour processing centre for children being arrested), a Parole Board Facility at Grootvlei Prison, a new administration block for Fauresmith Prison and Offices for Domestic Violence as an addition to the existing Rouxville Magistrate’s Court.
Heritage Buildings
Repair and renovation projects as well as changes and additions to declared Heritage Buildings have been undertaken over the years. For example: The National Museum in Bloemfontein (2008), Glen Agricultural College (2005), Oliewenhuis Restaurant and Reservoir Art Gallery (2003), Soutpan SAPS (2009), and Rouxville Magistrate’s Court (2013-2016), First Raadsaal Museum and Freshford House Museum (currently).
Interior Design
Design of interior and shop fitting became one of our skills since 2016 with designs for new Caramello’s outlets. Shops completed in: Vanderbiljpark SE8, Fleurdal Mall Bfn, Blue Hills Midrand, The Mall of Rosebank, Preller Square Bfn, Northridge Mall Bfn, Fourways Mall. Designs of interior and shop fitting have also been done for Travel Experience in Northridge Mall Bloemfontein and Bedford Centre.
